Rename: OT on IRC?

i like it here and find the posts interesting and funny at times.. but i was just reading through a few and every single post has been hijacked and was thinking hmm.. why is that? i just think everyone wants to chit chat about what people are saying and also rib each other.. i like to also.. So i was thinking y not just start an IRC channel either for just OT and can be by invite only to regulars if wanted.. but that way everyone can come and go as they please and rib real time.. its sooooo easy to do.. anyway just a thought.. no a bitch about hijacking i think the posts get to be funny after a bit

yeah but some people.. prolyl most wont use skype.. i know i wont.. scrolling text in a forum or on irc is the most i want outa this.. maybe at some point ill get close enough to some to voice chat but it doesnt interest me at this point.. no offense to anyone. its just one of those things..for some reason i have a lot more to say typing then i would talking :P

see instant message is not what i call scrolling text. if thats all it were it wouldn't be as fun.. i mean if you are all in a room chatting you can say something and everyone can see it and all comment on it.. thats the fun in it.. if you have to PM its one on one.. thats not as fun..

The OT last summer was out of control. I wouldn't use that term for how it is now. It's certainly being closely watched by the mods here, and aside from the occasional screw-up posting something that's inappropriate, it's relatively well-behaved.

Threadjacks are annoying, but they're more tolerated here because OT is sort of a threadjack of the whole forum ("forum-jack"? ). And since we're free-speaking here, if someone ticks off someone else, they speak out. And it usually stops. If it doesn't, it gets locked down.

I would call OT "Free-Range Posting" but not "out of control". If you disagree and want to see something done, PM me and I'll give you my take on it

you see.. thats not what i meant.. i totally agree.. i dont mind.. and its fun to read it.. i was just refering to the ability to all do it real time on IRC or similar.. not to change anything here.. this is all fine.. im as gulity as anyone for threadjacking or making random posts.. thats why i come here in the first place.. (OT i mean) just an idea

Maybe a better title for the thread would have been:

or something equally positive

if there were a sticky with an addy you could click it might bring more people.. could even do a java based so people without mirc loaded could play too. again just a thought. there is a definite need for the OT forum also.. just thought it would be funny

Anyway even when we attempted to get people into the IRC channel there wasn't much going on. The OT people are pretty spread out hours wise and anyone else poping in usually just wants a question answered then their gone. Now there is absolutly nothing wrong with coming there with questions (thats what its there FOR) but with nothing else going on nobody hangs around to answer those questions.

I'm on another site that has a pretty lively IRC community during the daylight/early evening hours. But even its dead at 4am.

Cobra is a master multitasker. He has several Videohelp windows open at the same time, Skype voice, and one or two IM windows ...one for each of us with a constant flow of sage links to VH and web pages. I suspect Cobra is really a whole team of people.

I have trouble remembering that I'm on Skype, and looking in the lower right to see what day it is

IRC may be nice, and I do like IM with friends, but once you Skype ...the rest is hype

He had been banned here and was just there to attack members. I logged in and within 30 seconds was being flamed like crazy

It was his revenge for the original thread of which I was involved and questioned his media.

I miss that kind of thing. I really haven't torn into anyone online in quite some time; not since MSN Chat went to subscription. I still get the urge but for the most part everyone here is undeserving. :P
