  1. What is the purpose of the S-Video port on computers? One of my computers is a Shuttle SPC SK41G which has such a port and I'm curious as to what it can be used for.
    Thank you.

Are you sure you don't drink?

Is the port on your video card, a PCI card, or on the motherboard's I/O panel? Likely it isn't an onboard capture device, though if it is I may suddenly have a new favorite motherboard

I had S-video out on my old video card that I used with a small TV as a preview monitor when working in Premiere. Good way to get an idea what your video project will look like once it's played back on a TV (at least a traditional one).

S-video IN onboard though? I haven't seen system boards with video inputs onboard as it would mean it had a capture device onboard. That would certainly be a cool feature if the capture device was decent. I was hoping companies would start building HTPC motherboards with onboard features like that, maybe even SFF ones.

  7. OK, the S-Video port is on the motherboard's I/O panel. As I said the computer is a Shuttle SPC SK41G (google this) which is sold as a "barebones" system ( no hard drive, memory or CD/DVD). The port is not labeled. The manual only states S-Video on the photo of the PC's rear.

The port is video out, supports up to 800x600 resolution in NTSC or PAL.
