I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for almost everything because of it's intuitive interface, but I think DVD-lab Pro offers much more flexibility in regards to functionality, at the price of a IMO less-intuitive interface.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. TmpGenc DVD Author - quick and easy to use - limited flxibility

DVD-Lab - more complex, requires more effort to learn and use, much more flexible.

DVD-Lab pro - As DVD_lab, but more so in all aspects.

  5. What are somethings you can do with dvd lab that you can't do with TMPG DVD Author? The most useful features I guess.

(Now that I think of it there might be a program call dvd author, but I was reffering to the TMPG one in my first post)

Almost any kind of menu you care to devise.
Multiple title sets (with PRO version)
    Complex Menu Navigation stuff.
    Menu Transitions.
    Graphical Effects for your menus
    Many more.

  7. Full motion menus.
    Hidden/invisible links.
    Lockout/password protect videos.
    Multiple (S)VCD/DVD on one dvdr.
    Automatic audio transcode (if needed).
    There are probably plenty more.
Check my guides for just a couple.

  8. Thanks for all the thoughts,

Can you tell me how DVD Lab Pro comparers to DVD Architect?

I'm thinking about getting Vegas Video 5, and I think they do a bundle with it for not much more.

    Thanks again.

I have DVD Architect, and will probably use DVDLab Pro in a few weeks,
when I get my hands on it.
But Architect I think is giving me some playback problems on some
    standalone players.
I'll try to post something in a month or so on the comparison.

  10. DVDLab Pro is very good but won't work for me when I have 3 or more VTS. Always "Out of memory" error during compile

So, what you're saying is that DVD Lab has problems with muxed audio and video? I can't see why that should be. If I want to put 15 or 20 short cartoons onto a disc in DVD Author, I just add them as individual tracks and that's that. In Lab, I'd have to demux each of them in turn and then add them in the assets window. Eww! Maybe Lab's authors should inspect DVD Author's code and find out how to eliminate that step. So, for now, I'll put up with the simplistic menus in Author over the demuxing problems with Lab...

  13. Noahtuck, I didn't say it couldn't be done, I meant it couldn't be done easily.
oldfart13, I have no trouble when I let dvdlab demux, but 99% of my work was never muxed together in the first place

That would be a heavy duty problem with me then as the majority of things I do these days are either single TV show episodes recorded on my DVD recorder or else short cartoons, each under 10 minutes in length. In the first example, LAB would be okay but for the cartoons, it would be a nightmare. Most of the problems that I've seen of late with these forums does seem to relate to the inability of Lab to accept combined audio and video files which are exactly what DVD recorders spit out. Sounds like the authors of Lab need to burn some midnight oil and get those bugs ironed out. I'd then probably switch over from Author since that program seems to have hit a dead end with it's creators. No more templates, no way of making templates, etc. Hope they cure that for this year...

  15. oldfart13, I meant that TDA can do it, but not as easily as dvdlab. Properly muxed video output from tmpgenc, Mainconcept, Canopus, et al, works fine in dvdlab. Yes, dvdlab demuxes, which I wish it didn't.
I've had menus nested 16 deep, with over 50 separate videos (cartoons) on one compilation, and never had a problem with dvdlab.
Would be nice to see a major update with some of the things you mention.

  16. I've always love TmpgEnc DVD author until one day when I have a really bad audio film that I really need the SUBTITLE for...Nothing shows up and that's when I begin to realize that DVDauthor don't support Subtitle...That one little thing push me away....I just start playing with Lab PRo...but I seem to be having DeMux problem... but I won't post it here since this is off-topic....
