Hello,
I have a bunch of AVI files that cannot be recognized by Pinnacle Studio. In another post someone suggested using VirtualDub to convert the files to another format that's recognized by Pinnacle.
Anyway, I opened one of the AVI files in VirtualDub 1.6.0 and tried all the various save options. Then I tried opening those files in Windows Media Player just to see how they turned out. Well, the video turned out ok but the sound is all choppy.
I've tried searching through the HowTo guides on this site and I have to admit I'm overwhelmed. None of the ones I've seen seem to address the issue I"m having but I could just be missing it.
Could someone please help me or point me to a guide/article/post that can explain how to take one AVI file and convert it to another type of AVI file (one that will be recognized by Pinnacle Studio)?
Thanks in advance for any help.
David

Default should be direct streaeming for audio. So the audio in the re-encoded file should be identical to the oroginal audio.

a bit of a guess, but it could be that you have "type 1" AVI and need "type 2" for Pinnacle. I use DVDate40en to change type 1 to type 2. Many programs have trouble with "type 1". As best I know, VDub has trouble withe the audio of type 1. Try converting to 2 and see how it goes.
If that doesn't work, use gspot to see what type of file you do have then post the results here and one of these wizards will know what to do. -
celtic_druid,
I saved the file again and watched the settings on the progress dialog. There was a checkbox for audio that wasn't checked. I'm not sure if that was the setting you're referring to because the wording was a little different (have to wait until I get home to get exact wording).
I poked around in VirtualDub but couldn't figure out how to change the audio option to streaming. Can you give me an idea where that would be?
Thanks! -
tmh,
I think you're right about the Type1 vs Type2. Someone else had mentioned that in the first post and suggested VirtualDub.
I'll try your suggestions and post my results.
Thanks!
