  1. Hi people.

I just bought a DVD burner, and upon doing my backups, I noticed that my movies had lots of atyifacts when I played them in my standard dvd player. The thin is that on some portions on the film, it appears as if the compresion was badlly done (part of the previous frames remain while the movie goes on).

The thing is that this doesnīt happen when I play the movies on the DVDRAM. THis had happened every time for 3 different movies.

I was wondering if someone knows the cause of this. Could it be the brand of disks, that my standalone player canīt read them all that well, or could it be another thing?

  2. What software are you using to backup you disks?
What disks are you using (+r, -r ?).
If you can provide more information you have more chance of getting an informed and accreate solution

  3. The artifacts are probably due to the amount of compression your using.

  4. I use Shrink DVD. I dont compress the main movie. (I compress a lot the extras, but the artifacts appear on the main movie.

    I burn with nero.

I use DVD-R single layer, no particular brand (doesnt say on the disk), 4X

the image is something like this

  5. Are you sure the compression is not on the main movie. It will default to this unless you tell it not too.
The only other thing I can think of is the discs. Try checking them with DVDInfo to see if it finds any errors.

  6. I deliberatelly and explicitlly set no compression for the main movie. When I watch it, aside from the ocational artifacts mentioned above, the picture quality is impecable.

  9. Just wondering,

The disk that solved it was a 8X, while the ones with problems were 4X. could that be it?

    No.

The problem is almost certainly related to the Media ID of the disc, that is, to who actually manufactured the disc. And before you ask, the manufacturer is not necessarily the same as the brand name.

  11. To make it worse, the same brand name may use several manufacturers for DVDs. I found some Sony that were TY and worked great and the next Sony's I got were a by a much poorer quality manufacturer.

I usually buy on line now where I can get the manufacturer I want. If you buy in a store, at least look for made in Japan. I've have better luck on those.
