Has anyone tried to buy a PS2 for Christmas this year? It is next to freakin' impossible to get them new or used!! (unless of course you wish to pay 500.00 for the super-duper ps2 bundle at Ebgames or Gamestop.)

    What the hell?

My nephew wanted one, but I got an Xbox for him with mameox, Surrel64 and psx emulators.

All his old PS1 disc's work and he has about 30 Xbox games to play now.

Much better solution. Plus a mojority of the games look better then the PS2 counterparts.

I already own an Xbox, but was looking for a PS2. I just think it is really amazing that every store is sold out. Hell, most stores are sold out of the Xbox. That is truly unusual.

They didnt make enough of the new little ps2s and they stopped making the larger ones to force the little ones on people and they weren't ready for the Holidays.

Xboxes were pretty scarce also if you tried to by one 3 days before christmas

  7. EBGames has a TON of them (PS2) here (used) for $159 CDN.

Strange... you would think that the overstock in Canada would reflect on their website. As it stands, you can't order a used ps2 from Canada. I guess it's a local thing.

  10. The wife and I got lucky. We went to 3 stores looking for one and they said they were sold out and didn't know when they would get any. The 4th store (EB) Just got in a shipment and there were 2 in the shipment. The only thing was it came with a starter set and cost more.

His Ps1 games work on a chipped x-box, are you sure? I have a chipped box and I just tried it with a ps1 game and it did not work. Are you using some kind of emmulator?

Yes there is a playstation emulator you also have to find the psone bios on the net somewhere. AFAIK you have to make a disk image (.iso or .bin) and ftp it to your HD before it will work.

pcsxbox is the emulator name you just put it in the right location and it works at least that is how I do it I have raystorm and einhander on my xbox

A good place to find drivers and bioses for your computer is driversguide they might have some useful info there

  14. I will check that out tonight. If it works I will be right pissed off as I bought a ps2 on Tuesday only to play Final Fantasy VII and VIII again. I sold my ps2 but kept my final fantasy games.

  16. I suppose that they think that Blockbuster should stock the consoles since they sell games.

Maybe they figure that if you're there to rent the games, then you already HAVE the console. Then again, they rent VCRs.

  20. One week before Xmas, my kids managed to break their Ps2. They got overexcited playing some game and managed to pull it off the desk as the controller cables got tangled. Bye Bye Ps2. Tough on them but they should learn to be more careful.

Only problem was that we had bought them a bunch of PS2 games for Xmas! Only solution we could come up with was to replace the PS2, also as a Xmas present. Could I find one in the shops? No way, no local store had one a week before Xmas.

E-Bay, quite a few for sale. Ended up paying £116 (about £10 over retail) for a new slimline Ps2, plus £20 for express delivery. Arrived on the 23rd.

Did I get ripped off, pricewise possibly. But it saved my sanity over Xmas!

  23. When the first ps2 came out, there was a shortage too....I think that was Nov '99. I got mine but odd thing was, I couldn't get a premium price for it.

Sony had some big issues with the new pstwo & was only able to get a certain amount that worked. I wouldn't buy a first version again, Id wait for the next version PStwo, which should have better chips.

It is really amazing how the PS2 has held on (performance wise) compared to the Xbox. The Xbox is a powerhouse when it comes to console gaming, but still the PS2 hangs in there with comparable graphics. A little slow (loading) at times, but nothing a little patience can't fix. Since the PS2 came this far, imagine how far the Dreamcast would have come if SEGA wouldn't have ditched it so early. Anyone ever play Half Life on Dreamcast? Looks pretty sweet!

    Hello,

The problem with Dreamcast was that SONY killed it....

Didn't Sega rush the release in 99 to beat the PS2???? They didn't have enough support for it.

I bought a used one and liked it well enough. It does have good graphics

    Kevin

    - and by the way XBOX has had increasing sales every year it has been out and is a real player in the market - giving sony something to think about -

I don't have neither of the 2 systems (pc gamer). It is almost impossible to get my friend out of his house since Halo2 came out. He kept on telling me how nice the graphics are and how fast the action is. I was so excited and was going to buy xbox, so one day he brought his xbox to my house and I was very surprised. The graphics were SHITTY compared to most pc games and the action was very slow compared to Counter Strike. You should have seen the look on my face. The graphics are so far behind CS Source, I could never make a switch from pc to console. Actually, it's not all graphics for me, controller can't replace mouse and keybord when it comes to shooters in my opinion.
