I have purchased these Tiayo Yuden discs that are 8x. It states on the container that these are not suitable for drives that do not burn at this rate. Is don't have y computer handy so I can't test this out, but will I get an incomplete transfer of data if I use this in my 867 mhz PB? I was of the understanding that I could burn discs on my Mtushita drive even if they are of a speed higher than that at which the drive burns. It's so hard to find discs that burn at my drive's slow rate that they are alomost always at least 4x discs.

I have until now been going with Ritek RiData discs. This is my frst step into Taio Yuden's territory as well as 8x discs. Please tell me I haven't wasted my money in these.

    Thank you,

same here... still have an A03 drive which burns most 2x and all 4x DVD-R at 1x. Of what I have heard and read and understand these 8x Taiyo don't burn at 1x, but I could be wrong.

Anyway I got fed up of burning at 1x and have ordered a new internal burner (Lite-On SOHW 1635S).

Ok thank you for that. But I was just reading on this Apple site that if your computer is equipped with a superdrive and the vendor is someone other than Pioneer, it should already be compatible with the faster media. My PB 12" is equipped with a super drive and the vendor is Mtushita (sp?) It's a Mitushita 815 J I recall, again as I don't have the compuetr on hand because it's gone to see the dr.
Apple also provides updates for the superdrives for these computers that may not be currently compatible with the newer faster media.

having read this page, it seems my PB or maybe even your computer with its superdrive may be compatible with the newer drive or is just an update away from being so. HAving read this page, I am sitting a tiny bit easier, but again, I'll go an check to see what the links that you've shown me here have to say.

    Thank you for the help,

yes this is the famous update for the earlier pioneer superdrives. it allows to burn to faster than 2x media but faster than 2x media will only be burnt at 1x...I'm getting rather nervous when I have to burn more than one DVD-R at 1x so I prefer to pay the 70€ for the Lite-On and I hope it will work with my Quicksilver (theoretically it should...)

    cheers

  7. When I put a Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R into my iMac 17" with a Pioneer DVR-108, Toast 6 only lists 4x, 6x, 8x and 12x!

12x? Strange. However. Nothing slower than 4x...
