ie, how many rewrites do you usually get out of them? What types of problems do you notice when they start to go?

    Hello,

Supposedly something like a 1000 times or so. I don't know what the real world limitiations are though.

I would imagine that you would no longer be able to format the disc when it finally gives out.

really - its a hard answer to answer ... some have reported just a few re-writes and they stopped working (able to write on) .. others have reused 100 times ..

you should always be able to read though ..

It seems to me, that it is a delicate ballet, between
writer and media. Having used pioneer, memorex
and optodisc rw,s in a pioneer 105. The memorex
and pioneer discs seemed to march on endlessly.
The opto's were good for about 10 burns, and then
fell to the wayside. I purchased a nec 2500a and
managed to recover all the fallen optodisc's.
This whole media game is something of a black art.
Brand name means nothing. Media ID means
    everything. Compatibility between specific burners
and media can be the crucial element between
success and failure. Since I got my 2500, my
    success quotient is excellent.
I hope this has been of some help to you.

  6. there is no answer. I've been using some Maxell's +RW for 2 yrs, and still good, probably erased them more than 300 times, they are my "tests"....

when they go bad, you can't erase them anymore, but, you should read them.

Thanks for the feedback, it does help shed some light on this. Hearing that quality brands can go on for over 300 burns is good news.

I'm using memorex RW (which shows a Philips ID) and they have been good for about a year now.
