My VAIO computer can capture video in dvr-ms format. The computer's programs allow burning this format on dvd. However, I would like to convert to AVI (or alternative format?) and then make a SVCD or VCD. I've used VDub and TMPGEnc before, but don't know how to handle the dvr-ms format. Any help?

Finally answered my own question. Found lots of others have had the same problem, and none of the forum feedback worked for me. So, the final answer: Use TMPGenc 3 XPress. It's easy and quick. I've been using the evaluation copy which is good for 15 days. Will have to buy it when it expires.
