  1. I tried to backup one of my DVDs with DVD shrink on my 3.2c p4 with 512mb DDR pc3200 DDR400. The encode time was like an hour and 15 minutes. I tried the same movie at my girlfriends house and her encode time was about 40 minutes with a Dell p4 2.4 ghz machine with 512 DDR. I turned of the deep analysis in DVD shrink in both instances. I also have a friend that backs all his DVDs up with a Dell 2.8ghz and he said his average time is about 40 minutes from encode to burn. Any ideas why my backups would take longer?

  2. If your backing up straight from the disc it may be your DVD-ROM. Some are locked for DVD ripping which slows it down (2x usually from memory).

here's a link for firmwares for dvdroms and dvdrw. you may find a firmware hack to unlock the ripspeed on your dvdrom or dvdrw.

I normally use DVD X Copy and it usually takes about 15-20min to copy and another 15-20min to burn.

After downloading and installing 4 or 5 programs to backup Resident Evil: Apocalypse, I noticed my speed went to 1hour 45min just to copy!

I uninstalled all the recently added DVD-Backup programs, and did a Windows System Restore. After the system rebooted I tried the same DVD and the time dropped back down to 25min to copy.

If you have multiple DVD Backup programs installed. It may be that you have a software issue and not a firmware or hardware problem.

    Hope this helps...

If you tried different programs to backup Resident Evil: Apocalypse what most likely happened is your dvd burner went to pio mode because windows noted there was problems with the dvd drive struggling to rip, doing a restore will revert back to dma mode, nothing to do with multiple dvd programs.

To fix slow ripping problems check to see if your ide controller is in dma mode,if not and its in pio mode then uninstall the channel and reboot,if its a riplocked burner then either get a hacked firmware or buy a dvd-rom drive such as liteon to rip with.

I check the DMA setting in Windows and also checked to make sure nothing in CMOS had changed. I also defragged the hard drive and turned off all extra process trying to get the speed back up...

Nothing affected it until I uninstalled and did the System Restore....

Sounds like a usual windows problem with ripping, even if dma is still enabled ripping sometimes slows way down.
