When a wanted segment jumps across to .vob's and I try and merge with MPEG Wizards remove gaps command, I still get an imperfect merge resulting in a slight pause. The cuts of commercials works great. I tried to merge all the vob's before pulling into MPEG Wizard using VOBEdit, but it just created almost 1 for 1 vobs instead of one large vob.

The process I am following and equipment I am using is below.

    Source: Dish Network
Capture: LiteON LVW-5001 standalone DVD recorder burned on Fujifilm DVD+R/W
Transferred to Hard Drive via NEC ND-1100A using copy command with Windows XP
Checked and removed errors in vobs with tool in MPEG Wizard.
Pulled vobs into MPEG Wizard, cut commercials and merged vobs.My trial period on MPEG Wizard is just expired. If I can figure out my problem I will use the $50 coupon and my the program. Time is ticking.
    Exported MPEG to hard drive
Authored and burned with My DVD v. 4.5.

    Lordsmurf any suggestions?
    Makin' the jump.

  2. I've observed the same problem.

If I have a DVD that features more than one .vob, it plays back fine and seamlessly when being played on DVD players or when captured via capture cards. But if I copy the .vobs to my HD (this is not copy-protected stuff) or use any number of software tools to rip the .vobs and then play them back in a wide assortment of NLEs, including the Womble ones, there is always a gap when going from one .vob to the next, even after re-encoding. It's sometimes less than a frame but the visual jerk and audio gap that occurs is always enough to distract from the flow of the content.

I can't find a Remove Gaps command in MPEG Video Wizard, just a Fill Gaps option that is for still images. Where is the Remove gaps command?

How do people handle these gaps (I don't want to have to edit out partial frames)?

    Thanks.

To get multiple VOBs produced from my DVD recorder onto my computers hard drive, I use DVD shrink and UNTICK file splitting.
This produces one large VOB that I then import into Mpeg Video Wizard. I havent noticed any "gap" problems as described by trock.

"Clear All Gaps" is right mouse button on the video timeline.

  4. Thanks, per a recommendation from another member, I use Simple File Joiner to make a single mpg that has no gaps when transferred to a hard drive.

Edit: I just tried your DVDShrink suggestion and it's great - way faster than the SFJ method (15 mins vs 38 mins). Thanks!
