I installed a Pioneer A08 DVD drive and DVD Shrink doesn't see it. It shows it as a CD drive. I also have a NEC 1300 DVD drive installed and it works fine with shrink.
The Pioneer does work with Nero and DVD Decryptor so I know its working properly. I also have the latest version of DVD Shrink.
How do I get Shrink to see the Pioneer A08 as a DVD drive?

Update: I reinstalled the Pioneer drive, DVD Shrink, and NeroExpress. Still DVD Shrink doesn't see the Drive when trying to burn. It only sees my older NEC drive.
My A08 drive has firmware 1.10 -
Isn't FW 1.10 an old firmware for the A08 burner?
Could try to update the firmware for it. -
Firmware version 1.18

Bodyslide, I checked your link. The firmare is titled A07, is this OK for my A08 drive? Also there are three versions, which one? I just want to be cautious so I don't permanately ruin my drive. My drive is a pioneer A08XL.
Thanks. -
You said you resintalled your Pioneer drive. Did you do that by deleting either your Primary or Secondary IDE controller in device manager and rebooting it to let it recognize it again.
Another option if push comes to shove is you can always rip to .iso with dvddecrypter and open the .iso with dvdshrink. -
mrbass, yes I did uninstall the drive from the deveice manager, then rebooted and let windows reinstall it. It works fine everywhere else but DVD Shrink.

I updated to official firmware 1.18, rebooted and verfied firmware has been updated. DVD shrink still not seeing the A08 drive.

then go in DVDShrink preferences and uncheck Enable Nero burning it should do the trick.
Although this did not work it may be a clue pointing towards Nero. I updated my Nero 5.5 to the latest 5.5 update but no improvement. -
Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink and deleting these files. This might do it.

So have you tried taking the NEC out and putting the A08 in to see if it recognizes it? Perhaps it doesn't like two writers installed at the same time.

It does work if I choose the DVD Shrink option to "make Iso image and burn with DVD Decryptor" Im not sure how it selected the correct drive to use other than the Pioneer was the only one with a blank disc in it. But it worked and burned my Ritek G05 DVD-R at 8x.
I think my version of Nero is too old and can't be used with this drive. I was unable to find any updates for Nero Burning ROM 5.5 that would work. They probably would rather have me buy the newer 6.6 version. -

5.5.10.56 is the lastest Nero 5.5 update. -

But the good news is that I installed my friends Nero ver6.0.0 and it did work!!!. DVD Shrink see the drive now.
So to all DVD Shrink users with old versions on Nero, you may not be able to burn to your new drive using Shrink unless you:
1. Write Iso and auto burn with DVD Decryptor.
2. Get the latest version of Nero 6.0 or newer.
Thanks everyone..... -
