  1. I am just about ready to throw my PC out of the window. I capped an hour long TV show using VirtuaDub 1.4.7 in Huyyuv codec and uncompressed 44100Hz 16 bit stereo PCM audio and it ended up being about 11 Gig (NTFS Win XP).

It plays perfectly, but whenever I try to cut the commercials out I end up losing the sound. I select direct stream copy for both video and audio, cut at key frames and select Save AVI as....and name it. It takes about 25 minutes to save, and all seems to work, except when I try to play the file with Windows media player, the video is perfect, cut in all the right places, but the audio plays for about 2 minutes and then stops, with the video continuing perfectly.

Another thing is if I start it playing and then move the counter beyond the point where the sound disapears then it comes up with the media player saying "Invalid file format", but the video keeps playing.

Is there something obvious I'm missing? Is it re-encoding after I cut the commercials, why does it take 25 minutes to do? I thought using direct stream copy should only take a couple of minutes. Is the fact that I'm using XP and NTFS format affecting it? Does ViruaDub have trouble saving the new file (8.5 Gig), if so, how come the video plays perfectly throughout the whole 42 minutes of the cut AVI ?

So many questions, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction as I cannot think of anythig else to do.

    Cheers,
    Kevin.

I just had the same problem. I captured 1 hour video using huffy, then converted to DV format 2 w/ premiere/DV500 to a 12Gig File. No problem until I insert edited a clip in the middle with virtual dub. Then saved the avi, directstream, etc. When I played it in mediaplayer, it was fine as long as I started the clip from the beginning, but if I jumped ahead and then went back. I could only hear sound after the edit, not before.

UPDATE -- Got it. Does your "edited" Problem Video file have audio when you play it with Virtual Dub? IF so, try resaving it again, without making any changes (direct stream audio & video) Hope you have the HDD Space -- this should only take about 5-10 minutes at most. (I'm not sure why it would have taken 25 minutes for you if you had Directstreamed audio & Video.) This method worked for me, and I have no idea why!!!
