  1. just installed a new nec 3500a x16 writer which burns very well.
dvd-r discs play in stand alone fine but dvd+rw will not.
the movie has burnt to the disc as it plays fine on the computer.
my old writer was a hp 200j which burnt movies to dvd+rw discs and played fine on stand alone.
i am using the same discs and tried various speeds.
what is the new writer doing different and how do i fix it?

  2. I had exactly the same prblem .. same writer... changed the brand of dvd+rw (was maxell) now datawrite and I have no problem. I suspect, (rain of fire expected), that DVD+rw are the least standalone compatible discs, based on nothing more than my experience.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  4. mine is yamada dvx6100 x 2 (one dead, 2nd also dead )
not the best brand for reliability...

Also the nec3500 wont recognize 99min CDr at all.... some choices come back and bite you in the ass.

I know a person that has a new 3500 and it just refuses to see some of his discs. DVD-R, too.

  6. I could find no good -RW and I would agree that +RW is the least compatible with players. I would guess that is your problem. I bought the Philips 642 specifically because it would play anything. It was cheaper than trying to get good -RWs or make bitsetting work.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  7. DVD+RW burned in my NEC 3500 plays just fine in my stand alone DVD player, a Philips DVD727. I burn with DVD Decrypter and CopyToDVD. Have firmware version 2.C8 on the writer. I have used both Verbatim and Ridata (RICOHJPNW11) media with no dificulties.
