    Hello,

I was just wondering, are computer dvd drives progressive scan????

I only have a normal flatscreen crt monitor so it's not like I need the best output for viewing. This is just a curiosity question.

    Thanks.

  2. Progressive scan describes decoded video data. DVD drives for computers are data drives. They blindly read the data, naïve of whether it's video, audio, or a disc containing your most recent data backup. The video decoding is done by software on the computer. As such, whether or not its progressive scan does not apply to these drives.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it meant the same for the computer/pc world.

  4. But your PC display IS progressive scan. SO if the source material (DVD) is interlaced, the player software has to de-interlace (and so make it progressive) before display.
