    Dear Members:

Please tell me what programs can edit the audio portion of a home movie, in particular, noise reduction. I have a Sony Handycam 480 and a Windows XP MCE computer P4 with Firewire. I started using MS Movie maker. I'm sorry, but I can't afford a program like Adobe Premiere Pro 2.

[I have Cool Edit Pro 1.2 and I love it for straight audio editing.]

Thank you very much for any help.

    Sincerely - Tom

  2. you might try using a free audio editor like Audacity which has noise reduction options

    TeePee,

If you already have the video captured to your PC and you are ONLY wanting to edit the audio (not doing any cuts..etc. to the video) then just demux the video/audio stream. A mpv file will be created for the video and a .wav file will be created for the audio. Just open the .wav in cooledit and edit it. Just make sure you don't do any cutting or the audio and video will be out of sync. when you join them back together. Once you have done your editing, save it back as a .wav and compress to AC3. When you author you can pick the mpv file as the video and the AC3 as the audio.

If you ARE going to edit the video and the audio:

    1. Use any video editor you want...edit the video how you like it (when I say "video" here I mean the video and audio).
    2. After editing, then export the video to an mpv file (I assume you are going to author to dvd) and the audio to a .wav.
    3. Open the .wav in CoolEdit and apply noise reduction. Save the file.
    4. Compress the .wav to AC3.
    5. When authoring the dvd, use the mpv as the video and the AC3 as the audio.

Thank you very much. You understood my questions perfectly. I will try both ideas and see which best suits my needs.

    Sincerely - Tom
