  1. This is gonna sound extremely lame, so bear with me. First let me say i only recently got my 1st standalone DVD player and i haven't even learned all the functions yet, so i don't know if you can typically select "tracks" within a svcd that is a compilation of numerous videos. I will be burning an SVCD of live music videos each of which is one song in length. Can i burn a svcd so that it acts like an audio CD in that i can select any track to watch with my sony 575? Do any or most current players have this feature and is it possible to burn a svcd in this fashion or do you have to burn all videos as a single video? i simple want to be able to jump to any song on this live music video. (i can feel this is gonna conjure up a lot of flaming )

    Hi dazco,

What you want to do is possible.

Use VCDEasy and find a guide that tells you how to do what you want. I know one exists coz I've used it myself recently to great effect.

As for whether your set-top DVD player plays SVCDs, check it out in the "DVD Players" link to the left...

If I find the guide I'll post it here.

    EDIT: Guides...

https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=45#45 (This is the one I used)
    https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=43#43

And remember to rate any that you use...

    Hope that helps. Good luck...

The former will get you your SVCD MPEG2 from whatever your source is (same as what I do), and Nero will create an SVCD for you (depending on version).

But I've only ever used VCDEasy, so can't comment on Nero's abilities / quality...

Nero can definitely do a menu for VCD, so I'd assume it can do the same for SVCD. You'd have to try it though.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. Well i'm thinking all i have to do is add them in nero after choosing svcd. I tried that and it shows them all as seperate tracks just like audio. So i guess thats all i have to do? I could burn one and see, but i gotta first figure out if my player is capable of jumping from track to track or if it'll treat them all as one long video. A quick look thru the manual and i didn't see anything. I'll just have to do a thurough read.

AFAIK you need to use the full version of Nero Burning ROM to do it - you can't do it in Nero Express. When you choose the New SVCD template, one of the tabs should say Menu at the top, and there should be a tickbox on this tab that says "Enable Menu" and all the settings for the menu should be there as well.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yea, i noticed that menu tab and enabled it to see what it was about. I'm not sure, but seems like it just allows you to add a jpg or other pic file that you'd make with the title and tracklist or whatever you want at the beginning of nthe disc. nDoesn't seem to have anything to do w3ith the videos themselves as far as creating a certain way they're to be accessable or displayed. Besides, mu DVD player at least allows almost none of the features like it has when a dvd is played. most functions are disabled when i play svcd's, and thats why i wonder if it would even work. Guess i'll just burn one tomorrow to test it and see what i can do with the remote.

    as I said, AFAIK

I've never actually used it, but just know of its existence. Have a play with it and see what you can find

    @ dazco - Two things:

    1. If you can't get your head around Nero - Use VCDEasy and the guides I pointed out. I knocked up an SVCD (with MPEGs already encoded) from scratch with a still photo with menu overlaid, converted to MPEG, chapters and burnt in under an hour.

    2. My crappy AKAI DVD didn't play the menu, but went straight into the footage. But the chapters still worked. But menus appeared on friends DVD players...

  11. It worked. Actually as i had hoped all i had to do is drop all the files in nero and burn. My sony played them all and allowed me to jump back and fourth to any "Track" with the previous/nesxt buttons. So thanks for the replies, but looks like my player and nero were one up on me.
