First check to see that you have enough free HDD space.

If you make a DVD you need to have space for all the intermediate file translations e.g.

    for DV camcorder source:
    13.5GB / hr, say 2 hr or 27GB
    render this to a DVD MPeg2 ~ 4GB

author the DVD, add additional graphics and music,
    then the render steps follow...
convert menus, music and the MPeg2 file into separate video and audio streams ~4GB
create IFO, BUP, VOB files ~4.4GB
    create DVD disk image ~4.4GB
    then burn the DVD

If you add all that up you need 16.8GB of disk space not counting the original 27GB DV capture. A good rule of thumb is to keep 18-20GB free if you can.

Some DVD authoring software will more intellegently use disk space, deleting intermediate files as they are used. Others (like Pinnacle), tend to keep the trash files. Pinnacle Studio 8 was bad about telling you why the program crashed. Often it was because the HDD filled up.

The advantage of keeping the intermediate files is you can recover from a crash at an intermediate point without having to start over from scratch.

  3. Thanks edDV,
I will go and check that but I have a 150Gig HD just for my video but I do have a few movies on it so I will see if that is the problem.

    Thanks again,

Make sure the big drive is being used by Studio 9. It may be maxing the windows drive.

  5. I'm not sure if this relates to your exact issue. Whenever I tried to "Create Disk" Studio 9 would just hang on my PC. It also did the same thing everytime I would exit Studio. In both instances my hard drive light would just stay on all the time. I found that my Lite-On DVDRW LDW-451S does not apprear on Pinnacle's supported drive list. I disabled the drive in the Windows Device Manger and both problems disappeared. Now I just create a disk image with Studio and use Nero to burn the DVD. I have seen many posts related to the Studio burn engine and it appears it's pretty poor.
