Hi, I'm looking for ways (hardware-related) to decrease encoding time. Would more RAM help? How about SATA or SATA/RAID-0?

Hello,
More Ram, faster harddrive, and a faster processor would all help
Though RAM would be the first place to increase performance (for the whole system not just encoding).

But for encoding, faster processor is the best way to go. More ram will only help if you are already maxing out the ram you have. 512Mb is usually more than enough for mpeg encoding. Faster HD always helps, but encoding is not disk intensive so the gain is going to be quite small.

If you can encode video faster than you can write it to your hard drive, please remove your processor and send it to me.
A faster CPU (or an overclock on your current one) would yield the greatest performance boost. -

Actually a seperate mpeg encoding unit like the £$%^& would be the best solution, they offer realtime encoding
