Encoding Performance Boost

Hi, I'm looking for ways (hardware-related) to decrease encoding time. Would more RAM help? How about SATA or SATA/RAID-0?

More Ram, faster harddrive, and a faster processor would all help

Though RAM would be the first place to increase performance (for the whole system not just encoding ).

But for encoding, faster processor is the best way to go. More ram will only help if you are already maxing out the ram you have. 512Mb is usually more than enough for mpeg encoding. Faster HD always helps, but encoding is not disk intensive so the gain is going to be quite small.

A faster CPU (or an overclock on your current one) would yield the greatest performance boost.

Thanx all. Presently OC'd @ 3.1G but can take it to 3.4G.

Ahh! but at what cost. Personally prefer an upgrade to a faster cpu to this unless you are doing encoding most of the time!
