  1. I'm going from

    P4 3 GHZ 2GB DDR400 PC3200 SATA1 HD
    Nvidia 5700 le agp

    To

    AMD Athlon X2 AM2 2.2GHZ DDR2 800 PC6400 SATA2 HD
    nvidia 7600GT pci express

I also plan on overclocking the mobo and video card. From my past experience I don't often notice too much difference from upgrades.

It should be faster, at least for encoding, more due to the two cores, memory upgrade and the SATA drives than just the CPU speeds. And that depends somewhat on the programs used.

As far as overclocking, depends on your CPU version, motherboard brand and model, memory specs and video card.

I assume a 4200+ Windsor CPU. You will likely need a different CPU cooler than the stock AMD for any aggressive OCing. Watch your temps closely.

When I went from a P4 2.7G to an X2 2G, DVD Rebuilder (and Henc) completely ate it up. I got more than a double performance boost with encoding, even though I was previously using HT with the P4.
