I saw that MAXELL DVD-R 15 packs that are on sale for $5.97 at OFFICE DEPOT no longer have on the labels where the discs were manufactured at. The DVD-R 15 packs are now a goldish/yellowish color. I only purchased the DVD+R media since the label did say "MADE IN TAIWAN" which are RICOH media which works well with my Plextor 708A drive that now supports bitsetting. Sad day for those of us that like the "MADE IN JAPAN" MAXELL DVD-R media. Maybe I'll just purchase one of those packs just to see what the media code is.

You didn't look in the right spot, they do show country of manufacture. They're MXL RG03, and they are indeed made in Japan. I have a 50 disc spindle of them.

I plan on stopping by an Office Depot to confirm this report (no country of origin on label) but I don't think I can do that until Tuesday. I will report.

I may also stop by BEST BUY and see if I can find any of the FUJU packs now on sale (25-pack DVD-R for $8.99) say MADE IN JAPAN.

Ummmm...I did look in the right spot & this thread is about the 15 pack spindles not the 50 pack spindles.....I knew I should have taken a picture of the spindle like I did about 4 months ago when I reported the 50 pack spindles were "MADE IN TAIWAN" that was RITEK G04 media.....I'll take a picture of the 15 pack spindles of DVD-R media if there are any left at that particular OFFICE DEPOT that I was at. And I'll take a look at the one near my office tomorrow and report back with pictures.

Oh! and I even saw the MAXELL DVD+R 15 pack spindles with the "MADE IN JAPAN" on the label but there was a white sticker over it saying, "MADE IN TAIWAN". Go figure eh!

I saw that at Fry's, the stickers. Odd.

I'm buying enough right now to last me through Feb or March. Even if I pay too much (3 months market deflation), I know it'll be what I want, and won't be replaced by Taiwan stuff only. I want Japan media.

budz, I've seen 15 disc spindles of Maxell 8x media that say Made in Japan. Heck I'd bought one of the +R spindles (MAXELL003) but I took them back because they weren't on sale at the time and I figured I'd paid too much.

I saw that too, but I still bought them and surprisingly they were Ricoh 8)

  11. The Black Friday DVD-Rs I bought (7 15-pack spindles) were TYG01s. The ones I bought today are MXLRG02

By the way, the "Made in..." designation is either in a small block of text which includes the Maxell Corp business info (to the side of the yellow "warning" box) or inside the white UPC symbol box.

look at the top of the barcode on the 15 pks.the (+ )are MAXELL-002-00
and the (-) are MXL RGO3 made in japan at OFFICEDEPOT in Palmdale,Ca

As I mentioned, the "Made in..." label is not always in the bar code. All of my 4X -Rs have the "Made in..." note under the Maxell Corp info, next to a yellow "warning" box. (Perhaps it is the 8X that have it in the UPC box)

The 8x discs are brownish, not bright yellow.

  18. No prob, Raymond, I'm just stuffy like that

Went to Office Depot for some more discs today -- it does look like the 8x have "Made in..." in the bar code box, while the 4x have "made in..." a couple inches away, in the Maxell Corp text next to the yellow "warning" box (the one that warns you about using the discs on slower burners).

duh i went to office depot again and looked at those 8x spindles of MAXELL DVD-R and saw the MADE IN JAPAN on the bar code scan. i must be blind and to think i just got a new set of glasses.

so the 8x MAXELL DVD-R 15 pack spindles do have the "MADE IN JAPAN" on the label but not in the usual place as the 4x discs spindles.

  20. Just found a nice surprise at my local OD. Imation 4x DVD+R(RicohJPNR01) on clearence for $9.88 for a 50 pack. I grabbed two packs. I also grabbed a pack of DVD-R that didn't have a speed lable. They turned out to be RitekG03.

There weren't many left. The manager pointed them out to me when I asked about some other media.

Anyone need 38 MXLRG03s? This PX-712A (second drive I've gotten from Plextor thru RMA) just destroys them

Buy a new burner like the Pioneer A08/108

Any burner having trouble with these DVD-R discs must be a POS

Oh I have no doubt the discs are fine, just this particular Plex doesn't like them. I've grown weary of the RMA cycle so I think I'll just keep this one as it burns YUDEN00T02 at 8x great, and mediocre to great at 12x depending on the batch of discs. Does well with SONY08D1 at 8x too. I'll have to try some TYG02 on it sometime, after I find another freaking job so I'll have money to buy more discs

  27. I bought 5 of these spindles at my local Office Depot. Getting MXLRG02 at $.40 each is awesome.

Heh...The Maxell-002 8x+R I got at office depot (very, very, very pale teal topped), did not have country of origin on the package...not that I could find, and I looked very carefully, although the -R 4x I bought did have made in japan. (Speaking of 15 pack spindles..dont know about the rest).
