This is my first post so be nice. I think I've found a new hobby. I hope my wallet can stand it. I have about 30 8mm tape that need corversion to DVD.
Anyway...
I was transferring DV from my camcorder(Sony 460) to my PC using WinDV and when it finished (after waiting 2.5 hours), the file was about 16G. I them noticed that I only had about 50 MB free on my drive. I only had a 40 G at the time.
If WinDV ran out of drive space, would it stop and give me an out of drive space error or just stop the capture at that point?
The reason I ask is that it didn't give an error and when I finally burned the file to a DVD, there was about 45 minutes of video that didn't get recorded. Otherwise everything looked great.
If there was a pause in the video from the camcorder, would WinDV stop the capture? I would find this coincidental that the pause happened just as my drive was almost full.
Since then I have added a 120G drive.
I would also like to add that other than the problem above everything worked exactly as the guide indicated although it took longer than I expected. This website is awesome. I can't remember how I found it now but I'm glad I did!!
Oh yeah... I meant to add the link to the guide that I used.

You were correct.
After using the larger hard drive I had no problems transferring with no loss of data.
