  1. i just bought a brand new gateway laptop.....centrino technology....now i have heard.whatever i do on the laptop will drain the battery.....so is it wise not to have a antivirus program or a suite like norton internet security running in the background...

    Agree 100%. You'll never see any additional drain from antivirus apps ..and if you ever connect to the internet, you ought to have it installed and running in the background, as well as doing periodic HD scans

    I don't know if I'd call it drain, but you will see a performance hit and in my experience everything you do while you have some form of real-time protection running will be slower. However, I still recommend installing it, just in case. You can always choose to disable real-time scanning when you're offline if you need to conserve battery life. In the end, you'll see SOME difference in ripping a DVD and burning it as far as elapsed time and in the end the amount of battery usage it takes from start to finish will be higher, but not enough to warrant running unprotected.

  5. ok thanks guys....... do you think it is wise then to have like a internet suite like Norotn internet security running......since there might be a change i roam into a wireless connection that has no hardware firewall..........

    and, there a program called BIGFIX....i guess it is like a rollback software from gateway like Norton GoBack is.......do i need that or should i uninstall.......

    and in windows update...does it update firmware of hardware as well?
