  1. Please bear with me as I know this subjects been addressed many times, but I couldn't find a clear answer....

Benefits of VR mode on a standalone DVD-Recorder, Chase Play, able to delete material and add chapter marks without a pc.

Are there any benefits for using this format not listed above that I might be interested in? Other than being able to edit content without a pc, I can't find a good reason to use it.

    Thanks for the help.

There are other benefits for DVD-VR mode:
o It is able to use all available space on the disc. For example, two half hour episodes are recorded on a disc using 2-hour mode. After deleting the first one and two minutes of commerical in the second episode, a single 1 hour 32 minutes programme can be recorded. This is not possible on DVD-Video and DVD+VR mode.

o Recording of both audio channel in bilingual broadcast (e.g. NICAM/A2) and allow selection during playback.

    o Timer program on disc

    o Creation of play list

o Use of non DVD standard frame size. This feature prevent sudden change of recording quality when horizontal resolution changes from 720 to 352. On JVC DR-M10S using DVD-VR mode, horizontal resolution changes from 720(1-2hr) to 576(3hr) to 480(4hr) to 352(6-8hr).

DVD-VR mode provides more features than DVD-Video and DVD+VR. Whether those features are "benefits" for you depends on what you want.
