I've captured many, many basketball games. I did one Saturday, and ended up with problems. I did one Monday, and it went fine. One last night, had problems.

The two that had problems ended up around 7G each. I am capturing Mpeg2, 7.01Mbps, 160kbps audio, 48Khz.

I have an ATI AIW 8500 128Mb. One file that I have on my computer right now will play fine with two media players. It plays fine in both Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 and 3. It shows sync problems in NeroVision. After I create the VOB files in DVDMF 2 and 3, it has sync problems. The same file opened in both Ulead Video and Media studio shows sync problems late in the broadcast. I used Mpeg2VCR to cut out unwanted portions, those files as well as the original captured file have the same sync problems.

I'm reworking one basketball game right now. I lower my bitrate a bit to decrease file size to see if it helps. I'm sure I will get it sooner or later, but was wondering what causes this? It's not a great big deal right now since the game I am doing is on VHS, but with a live broadcast, I'm screwed.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dropped frames are the general cause.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on that. Right now, my recording is over 180,000. I've dropped 11.

The trueth to your AV issue is simple. You are dropping frames
    during your capturing.

If you see any % marking inside your MMC's capture app, you are dropping
    frames.

Even if you don't, chaces are, that you are.

I just saw that you had responses (while I was typing)

Anyways. All it takes is one frame to cause sync issues.

If you want *total* elimination of issues, you have to
be abosutely sure you are not dropping any frames in your capturing.

So, how do I do that? It sounds easy. :>)

A lot of times, during the beginning of these broadcasts, there is some static or whatever, and I've seen that cause dropped frames.

What would cause my Windows Media Player to play it just fine, and other programs to frikk up on them?

It's damn frustrating, that is one thing I think we can all agree on.

Look at the "Sticky"'s in The Capturing Forum...
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

Well, whatever the case, I recaptured the game, and it worked fine. Who the hell knows? I've done everything that I can possibly do, have done everything I can possibly do for quite some time now, everything that you are SUPPOSED to do when capturing. Oh well, got what I need now.
