What's The Fastest DVD-Rom for Ripping

Hi. Some help please. I would like to give my brother a fast dvd-rom so he can rip some of his own dvd movies and back them up. His kids are destroying the some of the cartoons dvd's he has. While searching, I was wondering is there a DVD-ROM that is really the fastest for ripping? What's the highest rip speed? 16X? Thanks

get a LITEON DVDROM or a LITEON CDRW/DVDROM.

16X is the highest speed possible, but practically it isn't obtainable in normal circumstances.

There's a whole heap of threads that deal with the issue of fast DVD-ROMs.

FWIW, I've got both a LiteOn 166S and a 167T and with firmware flashing, both have been known to peak at between 15X and 15.5X on occasion when ripping from DVDR.

I know it's blasphemy, but most DVD ROMS rip at 16x or a little less. Usually doesn't make much difference which one you use. I like Toshiba, but Sony works well, also.

bah, show me the drive that holds those speeds through the whole process.

i want the drive thats gonna shatter my dvd into pieces from movin so fast...whens that one comin out?

Just pisses me off that DVD burners can't rip at an equal speed. WTF, is it a conspiracy? Probably.

Thanks to all. So if he gets the Plextor PX-716A DVD Burner which rips at 16X, it should be ok. Or do you guys recommend a DVD-ROM for ripping seperate. Thanks again to all.

Most burners are locked at 2X ripping speed, but this can be "removed" by flashing it with a hacked firmware. *I* personally believe you should get a separate DVD-ROM.

yeah buy the cheap rom to put the time on, and save the more spendy burner...well...for burning
