hello all! I NEED to find out what is the FASTEST way to go from camera to DVD. I have found that those mini DVD's work ok but the picture and 30 min record time voids that option for me! (cannot "flip" a mini dvd and record the other side for my purpose) SO! My question is..what camera, burner, media=FASTEST way to a DVD with a "good" picture and about 1 hr long record time???? THANK YOU in advance! (if you can give a rough estimate as to how long it will take that would be helpfull!)

Real time + a minute or so to finalize the disc.

I think what edDV means is you connect the camera to the DVD recorder with a "umbilical cord" for Video+Audio while you are "shooting". The camcorder does not record, it just passes the analog signal to the DVD recorder which writes to DVD media in "real time". I would think 25 feet would be the longest practiacal umbilical.

Aha, so if I had to pause the recording, it would show a dead screen in the final dvd during that period? Also, do you think the video quality would suffer any doing this? This might be what I'm looking for! Genius! hehe

"so if I had to pause the recording, it would show a dead screen"

    Yes.

"do you think the video quality would suffer any doing this"

Yes. MPEG-2 for DVD, especially from a mid-grade consumer DVD recorder, is far from best quality, or "archival" quality.

    But it's fast!

Thank you guys SO much for the help. Learned alot. Just out of curiousity, how long would it take to make a dvd from a "good" camera using the best STANDARD definition setting? assuming a fast flash drive and good computer etc...15 minutes? or so?

You would just record and pause from the DVD recorder remote. Quality in 1Hr mode is good.

The DVDR must go through a finalization step before it can be played elsewhere.

Any DVD recorder should work for this. Walmart or Best Buy have several.
