  1. I am very new to all this. I Used my Canon Digital ZR80 to record some family video in 16:9 format. Then I used my Philips DVDR80 DVD recorder to record the images from the camcorder. Then, fool that I am, I recorded over teh digital tape. Then, I discovered that the Philips DVD recorder had not recorded the images in wide screen format. The video is squeezed into 4:3 format. Does anyone know a way or program or service that I can use to rescue and "unsqueeze" the video? Thank you.

  2. Copy the files to your hard drive. Use Ifo edit and change the DAR to 16:9. Burn a new disk. Of course you need a PC DVD burner for this.

If you play back the Philips reorde disk on a standalone DVD player. Set up the player to tell it to play back at 16:9 and chances are it will look ok.

You could also get some software that supports 16:9 such as Ulead Video Studio 8 (about the cheapest decent all-in-one) to use to edit and reauthor the disc with transitions, titles, chapters....etc.
