I am trying to capture a video clip from my DV camera. It's connected to my PC vis a firewire card.
I also have a BT878 video capute card.
Trying to use Virtualdub to capture from my DV camera but just couldn't locate the source. I only see the BT878 source.
What must I do in order to see the DV camera connected to the firewire card. The firewire card is using Via chip.

Hi Tommyknocker,
Thanks for the fast reply. Will try Ulead VideoStudio & SE basic that comes bundle with firewire card instead.
EDIT : Did try DVIO but it didn't capture anything.
P.S. Ohio State beats Michigan in THE GAME. Well, Michigan still goes to the Rose Bowl thanks to Iowa. -
Yes.. it can..
and for the Record ...
My setup:
* Windows 98 Gold
* FAT32
* ADS - USB 2.0 Drive Kit - USBX - 804
..and *I am* able to use AVI_IO and DV through Firewire with success !!
..and under VFW driver support, and all this capture to my USB-2 drive
And all this, I capture DV from my ADVC-100 and Sony TRV22 cam, through firewire !!
** I've mentioned this here on vcdhelp several times, though not the steps
** to achieve the connection to DV. What's below is strickly BETA.
** use at your own risk.
Mind you, I can't help much here, but..
Some notes ...
win98gold - under device mgr
* 1394 DV camcorder: "Texas Instrument date: 3-16-2001"
* dvcam.sys - v4.10.222 (be sure version num's are the same after the 4)
* vfwwdm32.dll
* vfwwdm.drv - v4.10.222 (be sure version num's are the same after the 4)
* streams.sys - v4.10.222 (be sure version num's are the same after the 4)
Mind you, the above will sometimes change, but within reason. Some ver numbers
will change in a given setup. But that is depending upon what I'm doing. So,
the above is "subject to change".
I can't garantee that the above will work for any other OS above xxGold.
I've searched the web to exhuation. No one has it this working, but me. I'm
the long-star outhere. Its lonely over here.. being the only one DV'ing around
w/ avi_io (and vdub too) but I'd like for others to share in this, if they can
.
I hope you get it working. Good luck. Anyways.
I use both avi_io and winDV.. as well as other apps, but mostly winDV
these days.
But, with AVI_IO, it does not use the "Overlay" of the graphics card, where'as winDV does. So, there are two distinct looking video'ness.
One darker than the other. Anyways.. thats not important.
.
Also, w/ avi_io, I'm using the vfwWDM bridge. FWIW.. Be sure that you
see the vfw
Sorry, but I posted this exact response at doom9 just now.. so they are the same (for the moment)
Cheers,

Vhelp,
I am using AV-IO with a BT878 card for my Sony Video8 camera. Works great. Got a DV camera recently. So I was fiddling with firewire. Thanks for the tips. Will drop Markus a note about your setup. -
Windows movie maker is my favorite because you can capture and edit it, then go to tmpgenc and burn it to a dvd.
Go to http://www.expage.com/howtocopydvds4free it Rocks! -
vhelp, samdha14,
Manage to capture the DV throught firewire card. It wasn't plug-in properly and that was causing the problem. The windows movie maker is working fine.
I also able to capture DV clip using AVI_IO. But couldn't capture the audio. Does audio need another path, e.g. soundcard line-in ? -
I'm guessing you're capturing through your BT8xx
card and s-video ??
Anyways.
You have to plug the sound portion of your cam's audio
to your sound card, (usually through the cards Line-IN
or AUX. Then, go into your BT8xx card's capture setup
and set the sound to those (AUX or Line-IN) or if using
AVI_IO (as you said you were) go into the File and then
Capture settings and make sure that Audio is ticked.
Also, under Edit or something, you have to select the
Audio mode, which is usually 44k I think.
But, if you're having problem w/ you soft app rec'zing
the audio, then try this ...
Dbl-click your Sound icon (in tray area) and see if any
audio devices (AUX or Line-IN) is unchecked or checked,
and do the revise of each. Do a short capture, and then
play it in vdub.
Most people like to use the Huffy codec w/ AVI_IO or vdub
becuase it's next to lossless quality. I would recommend
this codec w/ AVI_IO for instance.
Cheers,
