  1. I am looking for a good external USB writer. I have a couple other posts on the topic here, but there doesnt seem to be much response on the Sony DRX710. A few suggested getting an external case and putting in a regular internal writer. However, I have heard of some potential problems in doing so. I dont know if that is the way to go. I have a Sny DRX500 that no longer works and need to get another. There doesnt seem to be much information here on the DRX710, and a few things I did see were not too flattering. IT doesnt seem to get mentioned much. Are there problems with it? Are there reasons why it is something to be weary of? Or is it a good solid drive that people are just not writing much about? I know the cost is double an internal writers cost, but adding in an external case brings it closer to the same cost. Any thoughts on this and info on the drive?? Thanks!! John

  2. If you're willing to pay more for it... the Sony drives are very much overpriced. If you're worried about avoiding problems, then try to get an external LiteOn 1633S; it's the same as the 710A, but does not carry the Sony price-gouging.

  3. Thanks for the tip. I am not sure what I am going to do now. I am thinking back to the NEC and external case again. If it doesnt work well, for the price, I can make it an internal and still get the sony without much lost. We'll see. Thanks!!
