i am trying to put my holiday movies on a dvd disc i have captured the film via a firewire card to my pc using windows movie maker in to a dv file which is 6.5 gig for 1/2 hour film and it plays well on my pc .then i reencoded it with tmpgenc to dvd file but the file i got was not as good as the original the edges were out a lot of lines in it going across the screen generally the pic is good tho at times with the close ups i lose that part of the film to just a lot of horizontal lines the closer the more the line . any help would be great . i have also tryed dvd santa to convert and the same thing has happened thanx edit

I would try WinDv to transfer the file. May not be your problem, though. This guide works well for me.http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/33/59/

The lines sounds like interlace and that is normal. Try play with a software player that deinterlace on your computer like PowerDVD and if you play on your tv you should not see the interlace lines.
Read about interlace here: www.100fps.com . You don't need to deinterlace if you are making dvd that you are going to play on your tv. -
sounds like interlace...its when half a image is displayed at once, and it alternates. for the US TV standards, this is done 60 times a second. this is normal for monitors to show that because they are progressive (aka, whole image at once).
