I've just resurrected an old Hauppauge WinTV (878 based) card for my daughter's PC and while it there's sound in TV mode, there's no sound on captured files. The audio out is routed through to line in of the integrated audio (C-Media SC97). OS is Win XP. It's probably a setup issue but I can't find it.

    Regards, jrisch

The line in is usually muted in the audio control panel. You might start there.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've checked the sound control panel and vol is max on all inputs. Any other ideas anyone?

The volume may be max, but is the mute checkbox unchecked? Also, if your audio input is mono, make sure you have the correct connector from your source (did this myself last week ) plugged in.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, all mute checkboxes are unchecked. That I've sound on the TV application which disappears if I unplug the audio cable that loops between audio out on the Hauppauge card and line in suggests that side of it is working. Yet when I start capture of the same TV input there's no sound on the AVI file. I've tried both the Win2000 application and nanoPVR and both show the same effect.

Problem solved, the sound recording was switched to microphone. I hadn't appreciated that recording and playback had different dialogs.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the update. It will help others (who bother to use the search function ) in the future.
