I've been trying without luck to buy Maxell 3X MXL8 dvd-ram media that was shipped with the unit (and works fine). Have not found the Maxell product, but did pick up panasonic 5-pack at Walmart (! - thanks to previous post). On the box it says "ver. 2.1/3X rev. 1.0 standard, and is capable of recording at 2x and 3x speed." On the bar code patch there are two numbers: top: LM-AT120LU5; bottom: 0 37988 01348 7.
Before I rip this open and make it unreturnable, can anyone tell me if this media is compatible with the 4040B?
Thanks

Yes but 3X are for newer burners only. Never had any problems with the new 3X compatible discs in a 2X burner...

Lets see, your writer uses 3x media & you want to know if 3x media works with it? I'd say yes it does.
