i used tmpge to make a mpg and if i try to burn a dvd with nero it wants recode it. what is the fastest way to put it on a dvd that plays in my dvd player?

Unless your DVD player can play RAW MPEGs burnt as data, you need to do the following:
Your MPEG must be DVD-compliant to start with.
Identify the specs of your file.
See What is DVD (top left) for DVD specs.
If your file is DVD-compliant, go ahead and author. If not, you need to re-encode it using an MPEG encoder.
Author using an authoring tool.
Burn using a burning tool.If in doubt, Google it.
