Hello,
I bought a new emachine recently and I have been installing components from my old hp pavillion. I went to uninstall my tv card but the computer wouldn't boot. It turned on and all the drive lights lit up but no further activity. All I had done was unhooked my internal dvd burner and installed an old 12x dvd drive.
So I went ahead and unplugged my tv card from it as well. It still won't start properly.
I believe I have everything backed up off the drive that I need. But I'd like to be sure.
Can I simply unplug the internal harddrive from the hp and install it as a second drive on the new emachine? Would I need to dual boot?? The hp hard drive is 40 gb with Win 2000 as the OS. The new emachine is Win XP SP2.
Would this be a simple plug and play procedure????
Kevin

yup. this will be a simple plug and play procedure if your BIOS is set on auto detect which it normally is by default. But make sure the old HP HDD is set as slave with jumper settings.

Thanks. I'll do the slave switch to slave as you suggested.
As I said I think I backed up everything I need but I want to double check. And I may even leave it in there for awhile. Though I will keep the hp pavillion unit as it still works.
I just need to diagnose the problem later.

Now on boot up since the old one will be slave I'll boot into WinXp right??? And the old one should so up as an extra drive like a memory stick does???
Thanks.
Kevin
(no need to dual boot since these are seperate drives right???)
Edit - Tekkieman - No I broke my old toyI have to fool around with the settings and everything...)

you are absolutely right.
You will boot into XP
Old HDD will work as mem stick (a huge one:P)
No need to dual boot since the OS in old HDD wil not even be detected! -
