    I've been having the same problem for about six months. I don't want to change my email address, which is the easiest way to stop it.

    They sent a fairly harmless virus (A email address book scanner), using my email address and I have got notices from several ISPs that the post was rejected or blocked. The same person or persons sent the virus to me also, but my ISP blocked it. Their return address was fake, so I couldn't reply or trace.

    I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about it. I would assume if the blocking ISPs wanted to check a little further, they would see that the virus isn't really coming from you.

    EDIT: One thing I do to limit this type of problem is to have several email addresses and use one just for spam. Anytime I have to give an email address to a questionable site, I use that address. It's my regular address proceeded by an 's' for spam. If it gets overloaded, I just dump the address and make a new one with different spelling. I made the mistake once of using my primary address at a site and that's the one they used for the virus. But, I get fewer of the ISP notices now, so they may be giving up.

    I get those types of messages for addys that I never submit for anything, only personal use. It happens from time to time. I can't even say for certain that it's really coming from another mail domain admin, or if it's just formatted to look like something I sent was rejected. I just delete them.
    Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

    I had exactly the same problem, both with my yahoo and hotmail emails. I got messages stating message not sent as it contained viruses. also, i had messages from unknown sources in my inbox which contained viruses. these had file attachments ending in scr (a screensaver file) and exe. i think these two are most commonly used for viruses. i emailed the admin about the problem (never got a reply though). this happened on so many occasions (i lost count)

    the strange thing is this all happened when i was still using internet explorer. i decided to change my passwords and switched to mozilla firefox, and problems solved, no more send/receive virsuses on my email. i guess its easier for people to hack into internet explorer than other web browsers. Another reason to switch to firefox.

    I always ensure that i signed on to emails using a secure sign in option (i think all email providers have this)

    I think that comes from viruses sending email as you from someone else's computer. I've gotten these before and they seem to come in batches. I always assumed someone with my e-mail address in there address book was infected.

    ok so dont worry about it too much. i already use mozilla. but my password that i use for everything is 8 letters long. i think i should start using numbers in my passwords. of course one of the old IT guys at my old job suggested using the begining lyrics of my favorite song so basically like 26 to whatever max characters to me that might be a little bit of a pain in the booty

    most of the time ABUSE@ (put ISP here) is the way to go.

    Also whois, most of the time, will have the info you are looking for. No dice for gmail.com though.
    Result for gmail.com
    --> /usr/local/bin/fwhois gmail.com@whois.internic.net

    I get those messages all the time.

    They go in the junk-mail at yahoo, and I delete them from there.

    I even get one from time to time with jimmalenko's name.

    Is he trying to tell me something?

    You should always use numbers letters and symbols as passwords. Password crackers can "crack" only letter passwords in seconds.

    Try something more like this for a password

    b@$sm0rD

    If you look at it long enough the:
    b = p
    @ = a
    $ = s
    s = s
    m = w
    0 = o
    r = r
    D = d to spell out "password"

    i think you get the idea Once you type it a few times you get good at typing it pretty fast.

  11. I have had those e-mails from Craig Tucker, Baldrick, Capmaster and other videohelp members. Loads of others from unknown and invalid e-mail addressses to. I used to have my main e-mail address available in my profile here, but since removing/hiding it, the number of virus bearing e-mails I get seems to have reduced. Still get 5- to 60 spams a day tho

    Same here ... just one of those things I guess ...

    Email spoofing - someone purporting to be you sends using your email address - then people fire up at you about it. Nothing you can do about it, really.

    I'm secretly just trying to give bazooka a virus though
    If in doubt, Google it.

    In most cases it's not people it's a bot. They spider web pages like a search engine does looking for e-mail addresses. I get them with a username just for one specific guestbook that I don't use anywhere else.

    yeah but somebody created the bot...so any way you look at it it all originates from a person

    I remember back in the old days of OE5, I would mess with friends by sending messages that showed all their info even though it went through my account. It authenticated with the hotmail server and if you went through enough trouble you could find out where it really came from. But most people never took the time and just got really freaked out. :P
