  1. Inaccessible_boot_device

I knew it was going to happen sooner or later... later I hoped.
Anyway my ? is this - Why am I BSOD'ing if I've altready gotten the splash screen? Isn't the NT loader file(s) being read at this point? Or is the drive itself crapping out during the process. BIOS sees the drive ok... I hear drive spin as well. Drive is a Maxtor 160/7200/8 about a year old
I have had issues with DOS errors (NTLDR not found, etc) in the recent past but luck had been on my side but now this...

    Comments?????

    Thanks,

It sounds like your drive is heading south.

You could possibly recover your files and burn them to a cd or dvd with a live-cd, its at least worth a shot. Slax live-cd is available here:
    www.slax.org
    and Knoppix is available here:
    www.knoppix.net
After you burn your files off (if you can) you could either reinstall onto that hd or buy a new one. Its at least worth a try to see if you can recover your files though.

Any other error besides that? with W2kSP3 I was having some anamolies with BSOD on boot and it turned out to be corrupt hardware profiles.

(Had to boot to DOS via 2k boot floppies, run diag, (drops you to DOS) and find the files associated with hrdware profiles and swap a few around (always have at least two)

  7. Hey- thanks for the replies!
I've decided to wipe it all and start from scratch. I figure I'll be losing nothing but time and in the end have a fresh system.

    Again thanks,

    Excuse the bump....

Success! Although I figure my drive only has a few "lives" left, I took the drive out and installed it in another PC. It ran through the Checkdisk process and VIOLA - drive is back up and running...

Could be a tip for those that might find themselves in the same situation

Again thanks and maybe my little experiment might work for others...

I don't know why I didn't mention this before, but did you ever boot from your install CD and try chkdsk in the recovery console?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

I thought about it but figured it was beyond hope.... My trying it in another PC was just because I had 2 pc's apart...

Thanks though, I appreciate all the suggestions...
