  1. I saw this on the avs forum can anyone shed any light on this????

Philips DVDR520H and Ilo DVRHD04 twins?

Has anyone else noticed the simularities between the Philips DVDR520H and the ILo hard disk model?

The manuals are almost identical. The 520H has Philips standard 2.5 and 3 hour recording mode, dolby digital audio recording and different location of recorder front buttons but the front display readout, manual and the operational menus are very similar.

Having tried both an ILo DVR04 and a Lite-on 5101 and owning a couple of Philips DVD recorders (75 and 77), I downloaded the DVDR520H manual and was shocked when I glanced through the manual. It has little in common with the other current Philips DVD recorders and a great deal in common with the ILo.

Now I wonder, is Lite-on making it for Philips or is Philips making it for Wal$mart?

ps B&H has the Philips DVDR520H 80Gb HDD in stock for about $379.

It seems that Philips has cancelled the US introduction of the DVDR740/17 and DVDR755/17 even though the DVDR740 still appears on their US website. They were annouced last Jan. for mid summer delivery. Maybe Philips is giving up on the US market or switching over to a low cost supplier?

Anything is possible....the Magnavox recorder was a Philips. One thing I know for certain....without a 1 hour mode....I won't be buying another Philips if mine dies.

Philips owns Magnavox, no surprise there.
So far, ILO machines have been rumored to be LITEON equipment.
