    Hi All,
I was looking at the Hauppauge site and came across this card http://www.hauppauge.com/Pages/products/data_hd.html. It says you can hook it up to a SAT, but I am looking for someone who has actually done it. Any feedback, success or failure?

I have a dish system and I am looking to do some PVR with our computer we have for the TV.

    Thanks for any help!

I have used the Nexus-S card, which comes with a hardware mpeg decoder (but not a fan) and have been able to watch Free-to-Air channels
    from various satellites.

As lordsmurf said, Dishnet channels are encrypted, but a few are transmitted in mpeg, such as the promotional channel, also several radio stations are in the same sat with good music.

Re: the Nexus card. It may not work with with the Digital sat, but I was wondering if this card would work with C band sat. With C band there are over 100 transponders with in the clear programs being transmitted as mpegs. For $200 a digital decoder can be connected to the large dish. But then you wouldn't need the card but someone may know how to use this card to obtain C band mpegs.

I was thinking I would like to build a PVR/HTPC. So are there any cards out there that I could use instead of the receiver? Im in North America so it seems like we are still a little limited.

There was one person who was advocating a WinTV Go and seemed to think it connected to Dish and got all the channels, except for digitals, which are encrypted.

Anyone know of any good sites I could go to to get myself educated?

DVB cards are supposed to work with C band satellites, but the antenna is quite different to those that receipt digital content, also the LNB is different. I have not being messing around with this kind of equipment because is huge and expensive, in addition I live in an area where hurricanes have a field day.
