I have a Sony DRU 700A with the latest firmware. Anyway, I had just finished making 2 DVD discs (data backup) and when I put the 3rd disc in, instead of spinning up, the drive made a short hum sound and that was it. It doesn't detect the disc. I have tried blank DVDs, Burnt Data DVDs as well as Original DVD Movies... Nothing. Just a hum and thats it. I tried cds as well. Same thing. I've never had problems with the drive before.
I've only had the drive since April or May of this year. Any help at all would be much appreciated.

If worse comes to worse I guess I can buy a new drive. They aren't that expensive.

I'd love to take it back, but I live in Canada, but bought it in Taiwan. Looks like I'll have to pay a visit to Best Buy very soon.

I paid the same price that I would pay for it in Canada. I had been living in Taiwan, which is why I bought it there.
Well, if I'm gonna buy a new one, could you recomend a good burner.
Not Dual Layer. discs are too expensive.
I'll look at reviews on the net, but if you wouldn't mind giving your suggestion that would be cool. Thanks a lot.

Who says you have to put DL disks on a DL drive? You still use it for all your single layer disk jobs and have it ready for the day when they are cheaper to buy. I Created by own multi drive set up for my business with 5 NEC 3500 drives and they cost like $80 each.

  8. Try uninstalling it from Control Panel & restarting your computer.

It's not a SONY, its a Liteon rebagged I guess.

Well thats fair enough I suppose.

As for quality drives, you can't go far wrong with the latest Pioneer drives (A08). Maybe not the chepest but they seem to have less issues than many others. Shop around online and you will probably be able to find one for only a little more than some of the budget drives.
