  1. I have some short movies about 22 min.long and hate to waste an entire DVD. Is there a way to burn to a CD that would work in a DVD player?

What you have is the perfect SVCD. See the SVCD link at the top left of this page. Not all DVD players can play SVCDs, though, so check the owner's manual of yours (or the DVD Players link on the left) to see if they work on your unit.

There are many ways to make SVCDs on a Mac. Toast 6 is among those that do this.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply! Now that I know I have an SVCD, I believe I can accomplish my task. I haven't learned the lingo yet and all the abbreviations are a bit overwhelming when you first start out.

Using the right bitrate you could probably make a Mini-DVD, but I dunno if your DVD Player would support it. If not then SVCD is the way to go.

  5. Can SVCD's be burned only on CD-R's or can they go on CCD-RW's too?

  6. Find your DVD player in the list HERE and see if it can handle mini-dvds or svcds. If neither work then vcd may be the way to go. svcds and mini-dvds can be written on both cd-rs and cd-rws but how they play will depend on your dvd player. Apex and Toshiba players are cheap and tend to play whatever I throw at them. Read the sticky at the top of the forum to find tutorials on how to convert on your Mac. Good luck.
