  1. All right. I have burned for a little while and I am used to the problems with some batches of Ritek. But this is more than I am willing to take. For a number of months, I have burned Ritek R03s at 6X on my Liteon 812S with US0Q. I got good burns with PI errors nice and even at 30-40. Not great but pretty good. Then last week I get this. Not too bad I think but not as good as usual. All burns but the first two are at 4X. The first two are at 6X.

Today I see this with the same setup:

So I figure something is wrong and I go to the codeguys firmware CG3E and try again:

That more like it I think so I burn another:

At this point I am ready to through out both the drive and the media but I try one more time to burn on my NEC 3500:

I give up. No way should this media or this drive be this weird. From here on out all media will be TY (except RW) and all burns will be NEC.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  2. Dunno ever think its the hacked firmware.. ? I stay away from that crap.. its not worth the troubles they may cause for a few mins of extra burn reduction. I would think the manufactures know best and not some hacker tinkering with their firmware.

I learned my lesson early when the hacked firmware would enable you to burn 2X disks at 4X. When they were first completed, played back fine. But the second or third time I would watch them they would start hanging up and become unplayable. Now only burn at the rating of the disks and the problems are gone. Just ordered a Pioneer DVR 108 which Pioneer says they have enabled the drive to burn 8X disks at 12X but think I will wait until the 16X disks are available and just burn at 8X . Afraid of rattling the skeltons again!!!

  4. The first two burns are with factory approved US0Q. Hacked firmware is not the problem.
