  1. Has anyone have had any problems backing up The Punisher? I am using DVDShrink Ver 3.2 and once it starts to back up, I get the "Production"Logo and a man running and then it gets stuck into a loop ?! I now it seems weird, but I have been backing up all of my movies for over a year now and this is the first ! If anyone has solved this issue, Please respond quickly !!

    Thank you

  2. try backing up the hole DVD with menu's. Dare Devil was a bit trick you had to back the DVD with menu's. When backing up Dare Devil movie only it had play back problem's.

  3. Kept getting errors with my Liteon DVD rom when ripping with shrink 3.2. Finally put it in my Sony 510 burner and it ripped fine. Weird!

  4. Hi all.

Fixes that have worked for some:

    - In Full-disc mode, use"Still Image" on the "Unreferenced Materials".

    - Use v3.2 Reauthor mode to do a movie-only backup (open DVD Shrink in Reauthor mode and browse to the movie title).

    - Rip and process with DVD Shrink v3.1.7.

    - Rip with v3.1.7 and process with v3.2.

That wouldn't be the animated robber from this thread ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hrm.

After reviewing that other thread, methinks that a review of the original disc is in order.

It's theoretically POSSIBLE that they've monkeyed with the IFOs somehow such that a stupid/novice shrink user might get the wrong thing.

But Shrink stopping and giving an error? What kind of error? I could see the finished product being monkeyed up, but I just don't buy it. That's like when people come on and say "I tried to use DVD Decrypter and after 5% it stopped - must be copy protection!"

I don't have this movie myself, it's on my buy list. Anyone who has it, AND has a clue, want to comment?

  7. Well, I have tried ver 3.2 and ver 3.1.7 and I get same thing. Somehow, DVDShrink just isn't cutting it ! Now, IF I Decrypt it with DVD Decrypter..Works fine. but how do I shrink it after I decrypt it ?? Good question, eh ?! <SIGH!> I just do n't know what to do at this point !!

I´m not sure I understood the question, because the answer is so simple:

Just start DVDShrink and open the decrypted files from Decrypter's output

I think the problems described are system related and not due to faults with Shrink.

Based on the two threads concerning problems with Punisher, I tried backing it up both as Full Disk and as Movie Only using Shrink 3.2. Not a single glitch with either backup.
Always looking to learn something new.

I wonder if it has a new generation of copy protection similar to Safedisc 3.2 with CD games?

  11. woodmaven, due to the number of reports I have seen in several forums, I think it's actually not system related.
However, this problem seems to appear on certain region 2 editions.
If your "Middle of Nowhere" is in region 1 country, it's not surprising you didn't have any problems backing-up "The Punisher".

I don't mean to shoot you down but...

Hows about loading it into DVDShrink using the Open Files button ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  14. jimmalenko, if it is one of these problematic region 2 discs, DVD Shrink v3.2 will still choke on the the "decrypted" files.
    Hence sray2k's query.

  15. Never had a problem with punisher or daredevil. backing up just the movie with dvdsrhink never led to any errors. i'm using a samsung sm-352b. but i do have problems backing up the recently release movies through dvd decrypter. it would copy to the hard drive fine, but it'll say invalid IFO through dvd2one and other programs.

Interesting. This is the second "new protection" that I've heard of that's limited almost solely to certain parts of Region 2!

  18. I think most of these discs come from Germany, where copy protection laws are pretty drastic now.
    I could be wrong though.

  19. Update: another workaround seems to be to use "No Compression" on the "Unreferenced Materials".

I guess DVD Shrink do not process the files then, so is not bothered by whatever "monkeyed" data they may contain.

  21. This is the problem I am having with The Punisher right now.

The "animated" "robber" guy is a kid kicking a soccer ball against the Universal logo. It is just a snippet, though. I have seen this snippet on dozens of DVDs before, in the Unreferenced" section, but it has never done this to me before.

When I start to shrink, it seems to be in a loop, and my estimated time goes through the roof.
This is because DVDShrink has a momentary pause whenever chapters are reached. The VIDEO_TS.VOB is the cause of the problem. Try opening it up in DVD2AVI, you'll see what I mean. The whole vob is just this kid kicking over and over again. Each time, it's like a different chapter. This is what is bogging down the program.

I tried to use VOBBlanker, but it doesn't like to do anything to the VIDEO_TS, just regular vobs.

I tried the "No compression" for the troublesome areas, with little change.

However, I have just found that, if you let it just do it's thing, once it gets past that file, it's all good to go! At least it seems to be for now (we'll see how it reacts when it actually starts encoding).

    But it IS really weird.
