  1. I just upgraded my system so that I will be able to burn my SVHS(Via S-Video Out) to DVD's. I am only missing a capture card, and after going over all the cards I am even more confused. I want to be able to Burn them onto a DVD with out losing any quality. I was looking at ATI's E-HOME WONDER (Video capture at up to 720 X 576 (PAL / SECAM) and 720 X 480 (NTSC) with MPEG-2 compression) SVHS is less than this, so does this mean I will lose no quality? Any suggestions? I need the card to have audio ports and S-Video ports.
    Thanks
    Josh

An ATI using THEATRE 200 chips would be the one you want. It has very good, very sharp images at 704x480 resolution (use ATI MMC 9.0 or above).

I have transferred lots of SVHS tapes to DVD using a Hauppauge PVR-250 card with real time hardware MPEG-2 compression and Ulead's DVD Movie Factory. The process was fast and reliable, and the video quality was outstanding. You'll probably want to use a TBC and a good VCR is a must. Software MPEG-2 compression can be quite time consuming, so you should at least consider a hardware compression card.

  4. Alright, thanks for the help. My other option was that I might buy a new MiniDV camera. And I would run my old video into that one and then to my computer. If I do this, I have a Firewire card that came with my moterboard(Asus A7N8X-Deluxe). I was wondering if there are different qualitys in the firewire cards or will this one i got now work fine?
    Thanks Josh
