I have come across a problem with TMPG that exhibits itself on both version 12.x and 2.x with regard to converting long clips. The problem has manifested itself on 3 separate pc's and two different OS's (W2K and Win98SE).
The problem manifests itself as TMPG dying part way through the conversion. On W2K there is no clue as to the problem but under Win98SE the system complained that the C: drive had filled up. Which indeed it had, despite there being plenty of free space on it before, and TMPG being set to use a different drive with even more free space.
Once tmpg had been ctrl-alt-del killed, 500M of free space appeared on C: (ALthough before doing this a search of C: revealed no large temp files), and the .mpg so far appeared in the specified output folder along with its .log file. However the combined size of both of these was only 160M!
It would therefore seem that TMPG is ignoring the temp file setting in its "environment" tab, and also that it requires temporary storage well in excess of the final output file size.
The source file was a QT read using the plug in.
Can anyone shed light on this, and suggest how to overcome the problem, apart from re-partitoning the C: drive to be enormous.

Ditto,
Confused, but not as much as I was:) -
ShiZZZoN- when you encode a movie. You must have AT LEAST on an average of 3 gb free. Once it hits right above the 2 gb mark(like 2.2gb-2.4gb) it will choke and need to free up some space.
If you are trying to encode a movie with only 500mb free space, LOL, thats funny.
also make sure that your mpg resulting file size does not go over 2 GB or your source clips are over 2 gb in win98.
If you are making standard vcd, make sure the clip is no longer than- 3hrs 20 min.
For standa svcd, make sure its no longer than- 1hr 40min

I wasn't trying to make a movie with 500M free. I had 20G free on the drive specified as both the temp area (which only seems to contain a relatively small multiplex info file while coding) and the output file. But for some reason the C: drive, with only 500M free filled up, and I couldn't find a file that was doing it!
The movie was only 25 min.

If it is a problem with Tpmpeg creating a large temp file, move the program to you bigger drive!
