Hi, not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this question but it seems like it would be the best forum out of the ones available. I recently purchased a 30' Philips HDTV and love it but i've recently seen some great prices for Rear Projection HDTV's on Black Friday and I was strongly considering taking my Philips back and buying one of the TV's on Friday. The only problem I would have though is if I got a projection Television, I wouldn't have any place to put my Center speaker. It's too big to sit on top of the Projection T.V.
So I was just curious what the majority of the people who own a projection Television and have a big center speaker do? The only thing that comes to mind is to mount it on my wall some how. Anyone have any better suggestions then that?![]()

They sell platforms that sit atop the TV so you can place items "speaker" on them.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
ahh, thank you Marco, that would be much more convenient then mounting a center speaker on a wall. I was just reading that certain sets actually "COME" with a platform free, included with the set. I guess it just depends on what type of set it is. Interesting that i've seen many, many pictures of projection televisions, even ones people have uploaded, but i've never seen any center speaker on a projection television or one of those platforms on top of the RPTV. I guess i'll see one myself when I get my set.
Thank you for the information. -
I have a RPTV. There is 4-5 inches on top... just enough room for my center channel.
Only problem I can see is...
If the set is a slim design. Some of the new RPTV's are 10" deep. leaving no room for a speaker

Your speaker is huge.Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
If your reciever has rca/preamp out for the center channel.. you could go out from the reciever to the in on your tv and use your TV speakers as the center channel..
no need to place an external speaker.. if you have very high quality speakers it might not be up to par.. but with a little adjusting it can actually be very cool... just a thought..

Convert the regular speaker wire (center) to RCA cable and plug that into the input.
Split the center to both the TV's stero "in" or just go mono (to one input)?Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
i would use a y spliter an go into both let and right.. so its equal.. still will be mono.. just out both speakers
reciever should have a center rca out.. (preamp) use that.. its low power. do nout use speaker out to tv.. thats powered.. it may hurt tv. -
the subtle art of balance and blu-tac is what keeps mine on top of my 51" toshiba RPTV.

heywould3, you know that was actually my next question if there was no other solution to putting the center speaker on top of the television. Hell, I may try that anyway to see how the center speaker of the RPTV sounds when compared to my JBL N-series center speaker. My JBL speakers have amazingly crisp and clear sound so it will be tough for the TV's speakers to beat it.
Marco, being that I always keep my receiver on anyway while watching Television, that wouldn't be a problem for me. So many television programs are broadcast in DD 5.1, I like to keep the receiver on whenever i'm watching T.V. My Receiver has a built in Fan to kick in if the temperature gets too hot, i've also placed an additional fan right next to the receiver if i'm going to be watching television for more then a couple of hours just to keep the receiver cool. It sems to work great.
Thanks Marco and Heywould for your insight, it was very helpful.
