  1. Say I want to crop 8 pixels off the bottom of the movie to be encoded via ffmpeg mpeg2 engine. Does ffmpegx crop than scale, or scale than crop? I don't want to scale the movie at all, just crop the pixels, so should I put the final resolution in the video parameters? One of 1920x1072? Thanks for all the help guys!

In my experience cropping doesn't effect the video parameter settings. The output is the same as that set no matter what crop settings you use. Letterboxing is a different story though, it does effect video parameters and must be considered when setting the output size. I've wasted a few discs due to bad math dealing with letterboxing.

I'm having trouble with cropping on a POS mpeg1 file I'm trying to use as a filler. It's a short 16:9 movie with letterboxing making it 4:3. My machines don't like mpeg1s so I'm trying to use ffmpeg mpeg2 at the lowest bitrate. If I use the half D-1 setting of 16:9 352x480 and crop 34 off the top and bottom everything's fine. I thought I'd try it at 16:9 352x240 but as soon as I change it to 240, the letterboxing is back. It displays as 352x192 but for some reason the cropping isn't working. Strange. Change it back to 352x480 and the cropping works again.

Oh well, DVDSP probably wouldn't accept a mpeg2 at 352x240 anyway....

I really don't intend to do any hijacking, but....
DVDSP will import ffmpeg mpeg2s at 16:9 352x240, but, cropping doesn't seem to work. It works at 16:9 352x192 and 16:9 352x480 using the otherwise exact same settings. Why doesn't cropping work with the 16:9 352x240 setting?
