Need to make PAL default mode on Apex AD 1201

Hi
I have Apex AD1201. I am using it to play DVD's/VCD's on a TV which uses PAL mode. Whenever I switch on the DVD player, its default mode is NTSC which makes it difficult to switch to PAL through remote (since the picture is not clear). Is there a way I can make it to work on PAL system by default? Please suggest the procedure.
What other things I can do to make it more compatible, please suggest the procedure.

Go into the menu under general setup and choose tv type->pal.

That is what I have been doing so far but its a temporary adjustment which goes away as soon as the power of DVD player is turned off. I have to again do it when I turn it on. Its a problem since the picture is not clear to do this setting using remote, since the default is NTSC, and navigating through menus is problem. I need a way so that it gets set permanently to PAL even if the power is turned off.
