  1. I bought the full Tmpgenc 3.0 suite of tools including DVD Author. It allows background images for each track, but each Track must have a video file associated with it. Currently I was putting a blank, 1 sec, video file on the menu and hiding this video, while showing the background image.

Are there any authoring tools that let you add several still images to a DVD, and put back/forward buttons to flip through the images like a photo album? I have several commerical DVD's that have still images, so I know it's possible.

  2. You may either create a slideshow, where the pictures will automatically switch (if you like it, with transitions), or put each image as background in a menu. You may use chaptermenus for that purpose and just 'use' the background.

  4. are there any non-$100-$500 programs that can do this?

is there any way to do it with dvd author? i've already got the video portion of the dvd set up, but i have some space left over, and i want to add an image gallery. and i would rather not start from scratch with a new program.

  5. Which dvd author:
TMPGEnc DVD Author or dvdauthor or GUI for dvdauthor or dvdauthorgui ???

In order to create a slideshow, have a look here:

May be used with any dvd authoring software.

Slideshow Movie Maker - Stills in (JPEGS, bitmaps) and an AVI out that can then be encoded to MPEG2 and added as a track in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

The only thing you won't get is being able to skip forward, but an easy workaround is to have each image displayed for (say) 5 seconds and just use the pause on your remote...

If you decide to do this, you don't need to go for too high a bitrate; in fact, very low will / should be OK - experiment. As I'm sure you know, the lower the rate the less space the file will take up. And tick the box "No motion search for still picture part by half pixel" in the "Quantize matrix" tab of TMPGEnc's settings.

    Hope that's of some use...

Good spot, but I'd still put money on it being TDA...

And, if it's not, then it's the hijackers fault for not being clearer. Of course, that assumes knowledge of the existence of other authoring tools...

    I'm gonna go now.
