  1. Its been something that I have been meaning to fix on my computer for a while, but never got motivated enough to do it. Now my wife uses the main desktop more and need to fix this minor annoyance. It seems that when ever I open a JPEG or GIF, Windows Photo Gallery opens up. The thing is that it goes straight to the gallery instead of the picture I've clicked. Even though the picture was clicked, it is no where to be found in the gallery. To just view simple images I have to right-click and click PREVIEW. Is there any way that I can have the photo open directly in Windows Photo Gallery instead of having to right click each picture? I opened up the options tab for Photo Gallery, but there is nothing useful except for importing pictures.

On a similar note, on a few of my other computers, JPEG and such have the picture displayed as an icon, is there any way to enable this for all photos in all folders?

I suspect you have installed a graphics program that hijacked your .jpg display settings. You could try going to 'Control Panel>Folder Options>General' and 'Restore Defaults' and see if that helps. I would also check the properties of your .jpgs and see what program they are associated with. It should be Photo Gallery.

There are a couple of other settings in the 'Folder Options' tabs that adjust icon or thumbnail display:

Name:	icons2.jpg
Views:	373
Size:	45.4 KB
ID:	2380

With XP, if that's your OS, there is also another tab in 'Folder Options' for associations that may help. You can check to see what program is set to open a filetype.

In Vista and W7, MS has seen fit to 'hide' the associations tab in 'Control Panel>Default Programs>Associate a file type or protocol with a program'.
